Sub-Lt. Pat Landy
Far from being a purely 'British' affair, the ranks of the young men who sailed to Saint-Nazaire included Commandos and sailors from Australia, New Zealand, and Canada - and in particular instances, from France, Belgium and Germany.
Pat Landy, responsible for the after Oerlikon 20mm on Lieutenant Ian Henderson's ML 306, was one of the Australian contingent who had come from the other side of the world to help the 'mother' country.
Robbed of an opportunity to land, the retiring ML had the misfortune to run into a German destroyer flotilla one of whose number engaged them in an unequal struggle, David versus Goliath, with Landy being wounded when the after gun was knocked out.
